URL Status Code Checker – see how your redirects really behave
Use this URL Status Code Checker whenever you want to be sure that a landing page, canonical URL or redirect target returns the correct HTTP response. Paste the URL and the tool will follow the request, read the HTTP status code and show you the final destination together with each step in the redirect chain.
This helps you quickly spot broken redirects, endless loops, 302s that should be 301s, and legacy URLs that still return 404 or 410 errors. Run the check for your main SEO landing pages and campaign URLs, fix the issues in your CMS or server configuration, then move up to the SEO Expert plan to monitor more URLs and combine status checks with full on-page audits in SEOcheck.hu.
Use 301 for permanent redirects and 302 for temporary ones
When you permanently move a page or consolidate content, always use 301 redirects so that link equity and signals are passed to the new URL. Reserve 302 redirects for short term tests or temporary campaigns where the original URL will be restored.
Avoid long redirect chains and loops
Multiple hops between old and new URLs slow down page loading and create more opportunities for errors. Try to keep redirect chains as short as possible and regularly check for loops, especially after site migrations or CMS changes.
Handle 404 and 410 responses deliberately
Not every missing page needs a redirect, but important URLs should be redirected to the closest relevant alternative. Use 410 for content that is permanently gone and should be dropped from the index faster, and combine this with clean internal linking.
