Which broken link checker is more reliable for websites?

What it does

• Crawls the selected target, collects links, then checks whether they respond correctly.
• A link is marked as broken if it returns an HTTP error (4xx/5xx) or if there is no response (timeout/DNS).
• You can check internal links, external links, or both. Results can be shown on screen or exported to HTML/PDF.

How to use

• Target type:
  • Single URL: checks only the links found on the given page.
  • Subdomain: crawls pages on the same host only (e.g. blog.example.com stays on blog.example.com).
  • Domain: treats all subdomains as internal (e.g. www / blog / app under the same base domain).
• Links to check: choose internal / external / both.
• Start URL: enter a page URL. For crawl modes (Subdomain/Domain), the homepage is usually the best starting point.

Limits & notes

• Status 0 usually means connection issues, DNS problems, or a timeout (the target did not respond in time).
• Some servers block HEAD requests; in that case the tool falls back to a lightweight GET check (you may see “GET fallback” in the Note column).
• Crawl limit (pages): in Subdomain/Domain mode the crawler checks up to 2000 pages. If your site has more pages, the crawl stops at this limit and then continues with link checking from the pages already crawled.
• Check limit (links): the tool checks up to 4000 unique links. If the limit is reached, the scan finishes and shows a notice — results collected up to that point are still valid.
• Queue limit (internal pages): up to 20000 URLs can be queued for crawling. This prevents endless crawling on very large sites.
• If a limit is reached, you’ll see a notice (for example: “Crawl stopped: maximum page limit reached”). This is not an error — it’s a safety cap.
• Results are not stored in the database. Exports are generated on the fly from the current scan.
